Getting to Mackinac Island is Half the Fun

By Air

Commercial Airlines

Mackinac Island is served by the Pellston, Michigan airport, 12 miles south of Mackinaw City. Commercial air service to Pellston is available daily through Northwest Airlink in Detroit.

Mackinac Island Airport

Mackinac Island Airport has a 3,500-foot lighted, paved runway, capable of accommodating private and charter aircraft. The airport is one mile from Grand Hotel. For more information, please call 906-847-3231. 

In partnership with local aviation companies, Grand Hotel can arrange private air charter service.  Call (906) 847-3331 to inquire as to price and availability.

Horse-drawn taxi service is available from the airport to Grand Hotel.  Phone is (906) 847-3323.

Air Taxi Service

Air taxi service between the Mackinac Island Airport and both the Pellston and St. Ignace airports is available 24 hours a day. For information, call Great Lakes Air at 906-643-7327.

Mackinaw Shuttle and Wolverine Stages are two Pellston, MI Airport based companies that offer taxi service between the Pellston Airport and the Mackinaw City ferry docks along with other Michigan cities on a 24-hour basis. This service is also available on a charter basis.  Reservations are recommended.  

By Car

Ferries to Mackinac Island can be accessed by driving to Mackinaw City (on Michigan's lower peninsula) or St. Ignace (upper peninsula).

Ferry Service to Mackinac Island

Passage to Mackinac Island is provided by several ferry boat lines. (Arnold Transit: toll-free 800-542-8528.) All ferry boat lines provide service from May to November. The boats operate from early morning until early evening, with frequent crossings throughout the day. All ferry boat lines operate from Mackinaw City and St. Ignace, Michigan. Luggage transfer is simple and convenient, with assistance provided on both the mainland and on Mackinac Island.

Parking

Ample parking is available at all mainland ferry docks. All ferry lines offer complimentary outdoor parking. Indoor and valet parking is available for nominal charges.

Taxis

It's a short walk from the ferry docks to Grand Hotel. Horse-drawn taxi service is also available for a nominal fee. Taxis greet all ferry boats arriving at Mackinac Island.
