Golf on The Jewel

Something different, something unique, The Jewel is the only golf course in the United States with horse-drawn carriage rides between nines. Add in a fantastic layout and beautiful location, and no wonder it’s been awarded Editor’s Choice “Best Grand & Boutique Golf Hotels” by Golf Digest.

Please note: The Jewel is a public course open to guests and non-guests alike. 

The Jewel Golf Course

The Grand nine, located across from Grand Hotel with views of the Straits of Mackinac, was built in 1901 and redesigned in 1987 by golf course architect Jerry Matthews. In 1994, he also designed the Woods nine, located in the interior of Mackinac Island and showcasing views of the Mackinac Bridge and the Upper Peninsula.

Together they comprise The Jewel, the resort’s 18-hole golf course. Separated by a mile-and-a-half, a leisurely, horse-drawn carriage ride between the nines includes parts of the Island unseen by many visitors.

The Jewel’s par-3 7th hole combines difficulty with breathtaking Pure Michigan scenery. Perhaps that’s why it’s ranked one of the top 18 holes in Michigan.

Tee Times, Lessons & Rentals

Throughout the season, we are pleased to offer Titleist rental clubs, golf carts, and pull carts, as well as private lessons with our golf pros. Online booking for tee times will be available in February 2025. The Jewel Pro Shop will be open in May 2025 for phone inquires. Tee time booking is not available in the off season unless it pertains to tournaments and large groups.

Jewel Golf Club Membership

Enjoy the ultimate summer on the greens with our Jewel Golf Club membership, featuring unlimited golf on The Jewel, plus discounts at the Pro Shop, The Jockey Club, and golf cart rentals. Memberships will be available in April 2025.

Driving Ranges

Warm up and refine your skills at the driving range. Both the front Grand nine and the back Woods nine have a driving range net able to accommodate up to four players at a time and is included when paying green fees for The Jewel. (Please note: If you’re playing the course, you can get a bag of 50 golf balls for use at the driving range.)
