    Hotel Policies and Information

Grand Hotel and Mackinac Island are truly unique destinations. Before you visit us, here are a few things to know to make your trip even easier.

Cancellation and Deposit Policy

In order to confirm reservations, we do require payment for the first two evenings as a deposit, either on Visa, MasterCard, American Express or Discover. If you are staying more than two evenings, the balance of your stay will be charged 30 days prior to your scheduled arrival. If staying only one evening, payment in full is required at the time of reservation. Included with the deposit charged is a $15.00 per person, per stay fee for the round-trip transfer of luggage between the dock and the hotel. All modifications to your reservation must be done prior to your stay. If you are checking out early, you will be charged for the remaining room nights of your reservation plus taxes and fees. For group cancellations, the above policies may not apply. Please refer to the specific group policies outlined in your group reservation.

Your reservation deposit will be refunded, less a $100.00 processing fee, with notice of cancellation at least 30 days prior to your scheduled arrival. A $50.00 per day change fee will apply to any changes in reservations. Reservations canceled less than 30 days prior will forfeit their room deposits.

Dress Guide

At Grand Hotel, we strive to create a relaxing resort atmosphere, so we encourage you to dress in a way that is comfortable and laid-back during the day. Casual resort attire is perfectly suitable, but we kindly ask that you avoid wearing midriff-baring tops, sweatpants, cut-off shorts, or sleeveless shirts before 6:30 PM.

As the evening unfolds, we believe every moment at Grand Hotel deserves to be celebrated with a touch of elegance. After 6:30 PM in the main areas of the hotel, we require that ladies wear dresses, skirts, blouses, dress sweaters, or dress slacks, while gentlemen are required to wear a suit or sport coat, a necktie, and dress pants. Please note that denim and shorts are not allowed in these areas. This dress code applies to all spaces on the parlor level, including the Front Porch, Parlor, Audubon Bar, Geranium Bar, Terrace Room, and Main Dining Room. Additionally, children aged 12 and older are encouraged to dress in a manner similar to adults.

Check-In and Check-Out

Check-in time is after 4:00 PM and check-out time is 11:00 AM. Every effort will be made to accommodate early arrivals and late check-outs. Please notify Grand Hotel if you have any special requests.

Getting Here from the Boat Docks

Grand Hotel is a 15- to 20-minute walk from the boat docks. For your convenience, Grand Hotel operates horse-drawn carriages between the docks and Grand Hotel. As with all taxi services on Mackinac Island, there is a $8.50 per person fee, cash only, and seats are on a first-come, first-served basis. We cannot guarantee Grand Hotel carriages will meet all ferry boats, nor can we guarantee seats for all Grand Hotel guests.

Luggage

If you arrive by ferry, luggage transfer is simple and convenient. When you check in your luggage with the ferry service on the mainland, it will be tagged and delivered directly to your hotel room. Upon check-in, present your luggage tags at the front desk. If you are arriving close to 6:00 PM, you may want to bring your evening wear with you to the hotel as luggage transfer may take up to three hours to get to the hotel from the dock.

For your return trip back to the mainland, follow the in-room instructions. Your luggage will be tagged and transferred from your room to a secure location on the appropriate mainland dock. We request a minimum three-hour window for the transfer. Guests departing by ferry prior to 9:00 AM should transfer their own luggage to the dock.

Weather

Mackinac Island enjoys a mild spring, temperate summer, and crisp fall temperatures. Because the Island is located in the middle of the Straits of Mackinac, weather can be unpredictable. We recommend packing layers — and don’t forget your walking shoes.
