Grand Team
A Global Community on Mackinac Island
At Grand Hotel, our commitment to providing a world-class experience extends beyond exceptional service—it’s about building a global community right here on Mackinac Island. Each year, our diverse international team members from around the world bring a rich tapestry of cultures to our doorstep.
The H-2B Visa program allows us to bring incredible talent from the four corners of the world to Grand Hotel, creating a truly unique and enriching experience for our guests. In 2024, we welcomed team members from 25 U.S. states and 32 countries around the world, including our very first team member from East Timor. While the process is highly complex and competitive, we are proud of the dedication and effort that enables us to welcome such remarkable individuals to Mackinac Island. Each year, our human resources team and immigration counsel works with the Department of Labor, Department of Homeland Security, Department of State, and foreign government agencies to apply for a small portion of the 33,000 summer visas issued for all businesses across the country. Through the dedicated efforts of our human resources team and the commitment of our team members, we are able to welcome a wonderful staff each spring to support our hotel and restaurants each season. Many of our team members return year after year, forming lifelong friendships and becoming cherished members of our Grand Hotel family. Their diverse perspectives and skills not only enhance our team but also bring a vibrant global spirit to your stay.
Beyond their roles, our team members share their rich traditions and cultural cuisine at special events in our team member dining room throughout the year when we celebrate each country’s Independence Day. These cultural exchanges not only enhance our workplace and foster a warm and inclusive environment, but they also nurture an appreciation for the diverse cultures represented at Grand Hotel. Our human resources team coordinates a monthly activity calendar allowing our team members to engage in activities together, highlighted by our annual team member picnic. We found this past year that kickball is a hit with many of the different nationalities at Grand Hotel. Our Hungarian team members told us they are definitely bringing the game back to Budapest when they return during the off season. Additionally, we invest in our team’s growth with leadership training programs, ensuring that every member, whether local or international, has the opportunity to develop both professionally and personally.
Thank you for being a part of our community, where every visit to Grand Hotel is more than a stay—it’s a cultural journey.
